Capalbio is the only medieval village completely\u00a0rounded within a double set of walls, with two paths on two different levels. A so well preserved and\u00a0really unique charm of this small village at the border of Tuscany, it won the first position in the Blue\u00a0Guide of Legambiente \u2013 Italian Touring Club.<\/p>\n<h3>Capalbio in the history<\/h3>\n<p>During the Middle Ages <strong>Capalbio<\/strong> belonged to the <strong>Aldobrandeschi<\/strong> family, in 1339 to <strong>Siena<\/strong>, then to the <strong>Orsini\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Counts<\/strong>, until it was annexed again to the <strong>Sienese Republic<\/strong>.\u00a0Later, the territory was passed to the <strong>Medici<\/strong>. Capalbio was the only one in the lower Maremma that resisted\u00a0to the Spanish control.<\/p>\n<h3>The charm of medieval Tuscany<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Capalbio<\/strong> is totally surrounded by <strong>15th Century walls<\/strong> which have remained untouched up today. The <strong>old\u00a0town of Capalbio<\/strong> is accessible from the <strong>Senese Door<\/strong>, a double arch door where in the upper part was put a\u00a0plaque in memory of a strengthening of the walls made by the Sienese in <strong>1418<\/strong>.<br \/>\nTo visit are the little <strong>Church of St. Nicholas<\/strong> and the <strong>Providence Oratory<\/strong>, small medieval treasure that preserves\u00a0the capitals of the 12th century.<br \/>\nThe <strong>Palazzo Collacchioni<\/strong>, a huge palace built in the 13th century on the ruins of the fortress, preserves a piano\u00a0internally, which have been played by Giacomo Puccini during his stay in the village of Maremma.<\/p>\n<h3>The favourite destination for many intellectuals and politicians<\/h3>\n<p>Since the mid-60s Capalbio is famous for becoming the favorite destination of important personalities\u00a0from <strong>politics<\/strong> and <strong>culture<\/strong>. In the Tuscan town is hosted the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.capalbiocinema.com\/site\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cinema International Short Film Festival<\/a><\/strong>, one of\u00a0the main Italian showcases of international short films.<\/p>\n<h3>How to get to Capalbio<\/h3>\n<p>From the SS1 Aurelia Road, towards Rome take exit Capalbio and continue straight on the
