The name Giglio derives from the Latin version of the Greek word for &#8220;goat&#8221;,\u00a0\u0391\u03b9\u03b3\u03cd\u03bb\u03b9\u03bf\u03bd (Aigylion): Goat Island, then Igilium by the <strong>Roman<\/strong> and transformed in Gilio in the <strong>Middle Age<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3>The second island of the archipelago<\/h3>\n<p>Giglio is the second biggest island of Tuscan Archipelago with its about <strong>21 square kilometers<\/strong>. Mainly mountainous,\u00a0it consists almost entirely of <strong>granite<\/strong>, culminating in the Poggio della Pagana (496 m). The beaches\u00a0located towards in the east coast are equipped with facilities. Characteristic of the landscape are the <strong>terraced fields\u00a0<\/strong>built on the steep cliffs which allow the production of the local wine &#8220;<strong>Ansonico<\/strong>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<h3>How to get to Giglio Island<\/h3>\n<p>A visit on the Giglio Island is it possible with a mini cruise departing from the nearby port of Castiglione\u00a0della Pescaia.
