This charming place offers\u00a0two main beaches. One is a fascinating beach directly at the end of the tourist <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.marinadipuntala.com\/en\/content\/marina\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">port<\/a><\/strong>, and with its white\u00a0pebbles permits to reach the rocks and to enjoy in relax the sea.\u00a0The second beach is accessible from the pine forest and offers an excellent solution for those who are looking\u00a0for a <strong>nature<\/strong> holiday. The vast pine forest situated along the beach is sometimes free, sometimes\u00a0equipped, and has some <strong>snack areas<\/strong>. It is a long beach made up of fine sand and with its underwater sea\u00a0bed slopes is ideal for families with children.<\/p>\n<h3>History of Punta Ala<\/h3>\n<p>Punta Ala become its name due to the great Italian aviator <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Italo_Balbo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Italo Balbo<\/a><\/strong>, who <strong>1930<\/strong> had purchased some fortifications\u00a0and villas in the area which later became his residences. Originally a pasture for cattle and then a\u00a0<strong>Roman port<\/strong>, in the <strong>20th century<\/strong> the touristic center became famous to be the reference point for an <strong>elite tourism\u00a0<\/strong>and for <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.enjoymaremma.it\/en\/sports-activities\/sailing\/\">sailing<\/a><\/strong> enthusiasts.<br \/>\nThere are many ancient remains of the fortifications built over the centuries in Punta Ala:<br \/>\n&#8211; The <strong>Hidalgo Tower<\/strong> was built in the 16th century in an effort to better defend the Principality of Piombino.<br \/>\n&#8211; The <strong>Castle of Punta Ala<\/strong> (or Balbo Castle) was built in 1560 by Cosimo I de \u2018Medici to control the north\u00a0coast of Castiglione della Pescaia. The castle was extended by Pietro Leopold in 1788 and then restored by\u00a0Balbo.<br \/>\n-The <strong>Appiani\u2019s Tower<\/strong> is located on the Isolotto dello Sparviero, in front of the harbor.<\/p>\n<h3>The Isolotto dello Sparviero<\/h3>\n<p>On this small island located a short distance from <strong>Punta Ala harbor<\/strong>, Balbo built his dream house.\u00a0\u201c<strong>The Sparviero<\/strong>\u201d (sparrow hawk) is a point of absolute interest for those who love bird watching or observe\u00a0falcons nesting activity.
