style=\"clear: both\" \/>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n<p><strong>Talamone<\/strong> beaches offer something for everyone. The <strong>north side<\/strong> with its <strong>rocky bottoms<\/strong> is ideal for <em>diving<\/em>.\u00a0The <strong>south<\/strong> with its wide <strong>sandy beaches<\/strong> is the perfect location to practice <em>windsurfing<\/em> and <em>kite-surfing<\/em>.<\/p>\n<h3>Talamone Rock<\/h3>\n<p>This 13th century fortress was built for the Aldobrandeschi to protect the harbor below. In the <strong>14th century\u00a0<\/strong>the\u00a0<strong>Aldobrandeschi<\/strong> conceded to the <strong>Republic of Siena<\/strong>, a series of rights over the harbor, in exchange for an\u00a0extension of the Rock.\u00a0During the following centuries, the fortress was expanded, attacked by pirates, rebuilt from the <strong>Spanish<\/strong> when\u00a01557 Talamone was ceded to Spain, and became part of the <strong>State of Deans<\/strong>. The <strong>Aldobrandesca Rock<\/strong> is still\u00a0the main attraction of <strong>Talamone<\/strong>: from its gardens you can enjoy the <strong>Gulf<\/strong>, the mountains of the <a href=\"\/en\/parks-reserves\/maremma-regional-park\/\"><strong>Maremma\u00a0<\/strong><strong>National Park<\/strong><\/a>, the\u00a0<a href=\"\/en\/tuscan-islands\/giglio-island\/\"><strong>Giglio Island<\/strong><\/a> and the beautiful beaches of the area.<\/p>\n<h3>Garibaldi and Talamone<\/h3>\n<p>This little town became a meeting point for the volunteer soldiers who were preparing to embark on the\u00a0\u201c<strong>The Expedition of the Thousand<\/strong>\u201d \u2013 a mission to reunite Italy under the command of 19th century Italian hero\u00a0<strong>Giuseppe Garibaldi<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3>How to get to Talamone<\/h3>\n<p>Direction south on the SS1-Aurelia, exit at the Aurelia, or direction north take exit Rispescia\/Alberese and\u00a0from there follow the signs to Talamone for about 9 km.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Talamone beaches offer something for everyone.
